Michael Oatman's You Are Here exhibit (Art exhibition)
Oatman's work in progress, "You Are Here," is a 21st century portrait that will be created within the gallery with West Cambridge citizens. The subjects will be filmed for 10 minutes and will use green screen technology to place the subject in a Cambridge landscape of their choice, ultimately creating a 'still' image from the video. Over the next month the public exhibit will change dramatically as filming takes place and fills the gallery. The final outcome of this project will be a permanent public art commission displayed on three high-definition television monitors in the new West Cambridge Youth and Community Center/VFW on Huron Avenue. The exhibition continues through July 15. Gallery Hours: Monday: 8:30am-8pm; Tuesday: 8:30am-5pm; Wednesday: 8:30am-8pm; Thursday: 8:30am-5pm; Friday: 8:30am-12 noon.

A Workshop of Original Student Plays (theatre)
Harvard-Radcliffe Summer Theatre presents A Workshop of Original Student Plays. The workshop features two student-written pieces, Alex Breaux's Still Fighting It and Jack Cutmore-Scott's Breaking Up. Still Fighting It involves three different story threads that explore what it means to grow up, dealing with the consequences of one's actions, and the ambivalence that can ruin relationships. It balances humor with drama, in addition to a hella sick soundtrack. In Breaking Up, one young man, 'A', is sitting in his apartment waiting for his flat-mate, 'B' to return from a date, on which he had intended to break up with his girlfriend. The story that B tells is quite clearly a fictional account of what took place, and A confronts B about the ridiculousness of the story. B retells the story. This structure of retelling the story with significant changes is repeated a few times, and with each rendition of the story, a heightened level of physical energy and absurdity is achieved. Select performances will be followed by a reception with the director, playwrights, and actors.

Courageous Sailing Make A Mark Celebration (charitable fundraiser)
Each year the Make-A-Mark Celebration brings together over 300 friends and supporters of the Courageous Sailing Center. It is a unique opportunity for the business, civic, and philanthropic communities to come together to make a difference in the lives of local inner-city youth. The festivities will include cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, silent and live Auctions, and dancing to great music! Who does the fundraiser benefit? Net proceeds support the Youth Enrichment Program of the Courageous Sailing Center. For over 20 years, Courageous has taught sailing to over ten thousand Greater Boston children, FREE of charge. Through the COURAGE Curriculum, the program develops essential life skills like teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership. Make-A-Mark proceeds are vital as Courageous continues to grow: In 2007, Courageous served over 1200 children and provided over 30,000 hours of programming ALL FREE! What Will Happen at This Year's Fundraiser? The evening will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, food stations, dancing, and live music by the Chad Hollister Band. Early in the evening, guests will have prime viewing of a Children's Regatta off of Pier 4, against the backdrop of the Boston skyline. For one day in September, Storrow Drive becomes a bike path. Join us for the 5th annual Hub On Wheels- Boston's only citywide bike ride. It's your chance to ride along the Charles River with no cars getting in your way, explore the greenways and the shoreline, the neighborhoods and the communities we call home. Last year Mayor Thomas M. Menino joined 4,000 cyclists a picture perfect Sunday for this ride. With new, improved and fully-supported 10, 30, or 50 mile routes available, anyone can participate! This year's ride also features the extended Storrow Drive/Back Bay route (10-mile loop), which means riders can cycle up and down the Charles River in just 45 minutes. Participants will roll out of City Hall at 8:00 am and head down Storrow Drive. Longer routes will then pedal through the Arnold Arboretum, Franklin Park, the Emerald Necklace, Jamaica Pond, along the shoreline, and beyond. After the ride, enjoy good eats, great tunes, and all-around fun at City Hall Plaza. Furthermore, your participation helps public school students get the technology and the skills they need to succeed in today's world. All of the proceeds from Hub On Wheels will benefit Technology Goes Home, a non-profit organization providing technology training and computer equipment to give these students the edge they need. Hike and Historical Talk: Skug River Reservation (hike)
The Skug River got its name from a phonetic misspelling of Skunk. Over 200 years ago, its waters were dammed to power a profitable sawmill and grist mill. Soapstone, or steatite, once quarried was used for tombstones, building stone and small carved hand-warming blocks. This event is co-sponsored by the Andover Village Improvement Society (AVIS) and the Andover Historical Society

Light The Night Walk (fundraising walk)
Light The Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual evening fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Each fall, teams of friends, families, and co-workers gather in cities and towns across America. Participants at the walks carry illuminated balloons white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold for "in-memory." Funds raised help support LLS's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. In 2008, the Massachusetts Chapter's six Light The Night Walks raised over $1 million. Nationally, Light The Night raised $40 million.
